Helicopters

Puerto Rico helicopter charter covers pad-to-pad transfers, resort-to-resort island hops, marina pickups, and short scenic flights. Two to twelve seats depending on the type, and access to any surface that will take a helipad. It is the private-aviation option that skips the drive to a runway.

Typical Aircraft

  • Sikorsky S-76
  • Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter)
  • Bell 407
  • Bell LongRanger
  • Bell JetRanger
  • Agusta A109

When a Helicopter Fits the Puerto Rico Trip

Helicopters fit three main Puerto Rico patterns. First, the SJU (or SIG) to Dorado Beach or Bahia Beach transfer for a family that wants to skip the 40 to 50 minute road trip; helipad availability depends on the resort and the day, and your advisor confirms before booking. Second, a marina pickup at Puerto del Rey (Fajardo) or Palmas del Mar for a client meeting a yacht. Third, inter-island hops to Vieques or Culebra when a runway landing does not fit the schedule. Weather and daylight windows tighten helicopter operations more than fixed-wing; every helicopter trip is weather-scheduled.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs).
  • Third-party safety audits current with Wyvern (Wingman or PASS) or ARGUS (Gold, Platinum, or Platinum Elite).
  • Aircraft-specific insurance, pilot experience, and maintenance records reviewed against the specific trip.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Puerto Rico-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Helicopter inventory on the island is a smaller pool than the fixed-wing fleet. Lead time matters more here than for jets. Peak season for hotel-transfer helicopter charter runs December through April. Hurricane season shifts availability. FBO or helipad handling coordinated by your operator on arrival; your advisor can put you in touch with a ground transport partner for the last-mile drive if the resort helipad is not the pickup.
